Pennsylvania Hospital, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Walsh carried out a Waste Audit in January 2004 and determined that 70% of the medical waste was actually municipal trash.

By March 2004, the Waste Tracker had reduced the waste by 25%.  Within 6 months, compliance had improved further and waste was reduced by 50%.

With Walsh’s unique Shared Savings program, the hospital is saving tens of thousands of dollars each year with no risk.  While the client paid a small setup fee, Walsh will invest over $500,000 over the term of the agreement.

How we did it ………… :

Policy Review

We worked with Infection Control and Safety to ensure that policies and definitions were correct.

Initial Training Program

Walsh personnel spent the first few months performing in-service sessions for Nursing, Labs, O.R. Staff, Housekeeping and all others, on all shifts.  We created customized signs, handouts and other communication items.

Monthly Waste Tracking

Every month Walsh’s Clinical Specialist tours the facility, using the Waste Tracker™ technology and performs additional in-service sessions.
