Health & Safety

Medical waste management and disposal can be dangerous.  The Walsh Waste Tracker Program and Walsh Waste Auditor will help improve the overall safety of a hospital's regulated medical waste (RMW) system

Each year, hundreds of thousands of used sharps, including needles, end up in red bags or on the floor due to absentmindedness or outright carelessness.  Needlesticks are extremely dangerous.  A needle can injure or can kill unsuspecting housekeepers, nurses, and even patients.

Walsh's products and services will influence proper sharps disposal and will point out where mishandling is occurring;

1.  Using photos to record disposal infractions

    By logging every instance of dangerous practices (a loose needle, leaking blood, an overfilled box, etc.) you have a record of non compliance.  This will help you to convince the appropriate people of the problem.  By e-mailing this report to the Department head, you have a detailed record of having acted upon the problem.  If someone  is injured, as in the case of needlesticks, you are able to show that you have acted diligently in trying to correct the problem.

2.  Target departments and areas where problems recur

    By identifying where problems start, we can target these areas with in-service sessions, greater attention, and a higher level of caution when servicing them.

Both Wlash Waste Tracker and the Waste Auditor will assist in logging unsafe practices, ensuring the appropriate parties are automatically notified each time, and targeting these areas for increased training and attention.
