Involve the key people in setting definitions:

Infection Control, Nurse Managers, trainers.

Write down quantifiable goals for Health and

Safety, Cost Reduction and Pollution Abatement.

4.

In-service all waste producers and waste handlers.

5.

Reduce the number of red bags in use, increase

the number of clear or regular trash bags in use.

6.

Ensure that appropriate bins are available and

are being used properly.

7.

Track each department's results at least once a

month.

8.

Feed back information to users within one day of

finding problems.

9.

Follow up problem areas within one week to

ensure improvement.

10.

Regularly report program status to Waste

Management committee or Hospital Executive.
