| Walsh Waste Tracker Program |
| |
|
Pitou is our mascot and is a daily reminder of your efforts to improve the environment. Appearing on materials from posters to coffee cups, Pitou will remind your staff, in a positive, friendly and fun way, of their responsibility to the environment.
Walsh Waste Tracker is also the name of our Pollution Prevention program which we tailor to meet your hospital’s unique requirements.
Walsh Waste Tracker combines Walsh’s services and cutting-edge Walsh Waste Tracker technology to reduce the costs and risks associated with medical waste, trash, and recyclables.
|
 |
|
| P2 includes each of the following components; |
| 1. |
Cost reduction: Reducing your
regulated medical waste through improved segregation is the key to significant cost reduction. Our
In-Service Programs and Monthly Waste Tracking service initiate and support proper segregation. |
|
2. |
Environmental Compliance: The tracking and reporting functions of
Walsh Waste Tracker will help you to meet these and other regulatory requirements with little effort. With
Walsh Waste Tracker you are able to show the EPA, the AHA, JCAHO and the community that you are doing everything possible to minimize your hospital’s impact on the environment. |
|
3. |
Health & Safety improvements:
Improper medical waste disposal can injure your staff, patients and the general public.
Walsh Waste Tracker will assist in logging unsafe practices, ensuring that appropriate department heads are automatically notified, and targeting these areas for increased training. |
|
| There are 6 critical steps to
Walsh Waste Tracker’s success in reducing costs, maintaining environmental compliance, and improving health & safety: |
| 1. |
In-service sessions: In-service sessions are the most important venue for getting the
P2 Program message out. By directly in-servicing Nurses, Lab Techs, OR Techs, Housekeeping personnel and professional staff, Walsh is able to disseminate the proper definitions of medical waste allowing us to promote “Best Practices”. |
 |
| |
Walsh’s trained specialists conduct these in-service sessions within your hospital. We combine our expertise with that of your hospital Epidemiology and Infection Control staff to ensure that your
RMW management policies are up to date and clear. |
| 2. |
Monthly Waste Tracking Service: A critical success factor in improving the quality of your
medical waste disposal management system is the regular and detailed auditing of the actual contents of your red bags. This means going and actually looking in these bags to see what’s there; there is just no other way to determine who is misusing the system. Before
Walsh Waste Tracker, this was a cumbersome and distasteful task that in most hospitals has simply been avoided. |
| |
Using Walsh Waste Tracker handheld computer and the integrated digital camera makes documenting a department’s waste stream accurate and efficient. With our Monthly Waste Tracking Service you are guaranteed that this function is being performed properly and on schedule. |
| 3. |
Quarterly Reporting and Presentation: Four times per year, Walsh’s Clinical Specialist will visit your hospital to review the progress of
Walsh Waste Tracker. We will give presentations detailing the accomplishments to date and discuss upcoming changes and improvements needed to continue with the program’s success. |
 |
| |
These presentations offer an opportunity to motivate employees, remind them that the
Walsh Waste Tracker Program
is an ongoing one, and that everyone’s effort is needed over time to ensure success. |
| 4. |
Proprietary Technology:
A major element of the Walsh Waste Tracker Program
is Walsh's Waste Tracker Technology. Walsh’s core technology incorporates a palm-top computer and integrated digital camera with an expert system to store visual and written records of misdirected waste or potentially dangerous disposal practices. The collected data is stored in a central web server and delivers a variety of reports including e-mails, graphs, and regulatory documents. Walsh’s staff installs and maintains this technology at your facility and is always available through our 1-800 number. |
 |
| 5. |
Waste Management Support Program: Walsh has developed an attractive and professional support program designed to promote best practices. Our hard-hitting graphics are designed to catch the eye and make employees aware of the environmental and cost outcomes of their actions. Walsh’s copyrighted materials cover issues including
RMW policy, procedures, definitions, regulations and handling protocol. |
 |
| 6. |
Reports and E-mails:
Preparing and maintaining reports requires both time and effort. The
Walsh Waste Tracker Program does this for you automatically and instantaneously.
|
 |
| |
In general, a hospital must meet the requirements of numerous regulatory bodies regarding the handling and
removal of RMW, including JCAHO, the EPA, AHA, and the State. The Waste Tracker
Technology produces targeted reports and plans for these concerned parties and others. These reports are up to date, accurate, understandable and instantaneous. |
 |
The Walsh Waste Tracker e-mails are a powerful and simple to use feature that continuously inform each department of how they are doing. As we tour and take digital photos of the waste stream, we are actually producing individual email reports for each Department Head. This exclusive feature keeps your key people informed and involved, and keeps you in control. |
